DeLand: 3rd Annual Civil War Show and Sale
Post 6 American Legion Hall - Saturday, March 1, 2014, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

 

DeLand's Civil War Show is set for Saturday, March 1st, 2014.  The event will be held at the Post 6 American Legion Hall located in DeLand at 1087 Biscayne Blvd. This is very near the DeLand airport. The show will feature only artifacts, uniforms, photographs, antiques, swords, flintlocks, art, and Americana prior to 1898: no modern guns are allowed! This show is meant to be educational but all items are also for sale. Our collectors and dealers would love to see your antique military item for sale or trade!

 

Hours are 9a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission to the charity event is only $5.00. Active duty military, Florida Law Enforcement officers, those wearing a complete period outfit, and children under 12 with a parent get in free.

 

This is not a re-enactment: just a show and sale of the finest period military antiques in Central Florida. Main sponsors of the show are DeLand's Post 6 American Legion, the St. Johns Chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the DeLand Army Tugboat Preservation Group, Inc.

Flagler Avenue will host its 6th annual Flagler Avenue Mardi Gras Parade at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 4. The parade will travel the Avenue from the beach to turn south on Pine Street and end at Jessamine Avenue. Celebrate Fat Tuesday with the parade, Mardi Gras-themed music and food specials at 10 venues along the Avenue. The parade route will be closed to vehicular traffic from 5 - 8 p.m. Cars also must be moved from the street to accommodate the large crowds.

Continuing exhibits: The Armory featuring Napoleonic weaponry; the Root Family Museum, featuring Coca-Cola© memorabilia and other Americana; the Cuban Foundation Collection; Frischer Sculpture Garden; Anderson C. Bouchelle Gallery for International Decorative Arts; Kim A. Klancke, M.D., and Marsha L. Klancke Environmental Education Complex in Tuscawilla Preserve; Schulte Gallery of Chinese Art; Helene B. Roberson Visible Storage Building; the Giant Ground Sloth; Celestial Charts from the MOAS Collection; The Charles and Linda Williams Children’s Museum, the first hands-on science center in Volusia County, featuring more than 9,000 square feet of interactive exhibits. Laser Rock Concert Schedule 2014: March 8th - 7pm Laser Vinyl - Rock songs from the 70's and 80's, 8pm Laser U2, 9pm Laser Metallica. Second Saturday Laser Rock Concerts will resume in the new MOAS Planetarium, opening August 2014. Doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are $5 for one show, $7 for two shows or $9 for three shows and can be purchased in advance at the MOAS front desk or at the door the night of the event. Seating is limited. Snacks, beer and soft drinks can be purchased at the Museum and enjoyed in the planetarium.

 

Coming Soon to the Museum of Arts & Sciences

Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art. The innovative Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art will be the new 26,000 square foot home for the Brown’s extensive collection of more than 2,700 Florida oil and watercolor paintings. In addition to a large, permanent gallery including a mezzanine, which will showcase the collection’s signature pieces, the new Museum will include six changing galleries, ranging from 900 to 2,000 square feet, conference and education rooms, a café with outdoor seating and a gift shop. Conference rooms and meeting and event spaces will be available to the public on a rental basis. The Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art is scheduled to open in 2015.

 

New Planetarium. This state-of-the-art astronomy facility will feature dynamic and educational programming in a modern venue. Scheduled to open August 2014.

 

MOAS West Wing. Artwork from the West Wing will be temporarily re-located in the North Wing’s Ford Gallery during construction, which is scheduled late spring 2014. The new West Wing is scheduled to reopen in the fall of 2015.

 

Root Family Museum Project. The Root Family recently donated $1.2 million for the preservation of the historic Silver Holly and Hiawatha railcars and enclosure of the rail shed which are part of the Root Family Museum at MOAS. Original artifacts will be displayed in context with the railcars and can be enjoyed by visitors whatever the weather. The re-interpretation of the space will allow for great insight into the lives of early American industrialists. The railcar exhibit is scheduled to reopen fall 2014.

 

Exhibits and dates subject to change.

Ken and Melanie Light embarked on a five-year photographic journey to examine the legacy and contradictions of agricultural plenty in the United States. Valley of Shadows and Dreams presents, in words and images, the harsh truths of farm workers’ daily experiences, while taking a look at the impact of politics, environmental and water issues, and rampant, often ill-considered residential development. These photos and stories capture scenes of hardworking people fighting to preserve their livelihoods and traditions.

Spring's Touch Plant Sale is being held on the Second Saturday by the Friends on March 8th from 10 am to 2 pm. Mother Earth is awakening as the weather changes from winter to spring!  Our plant sale features a wonderful selection of flowers and bushes together with unusual and hard to find plants for your home, patio orgarden.  Plants being showcased this month include Bird of Paradise, angel trumpets, yellow shrimp plant and lobelia.

 

Visitors may find Florida Natives among the selections on the plant benches. A portion of the plants were propagated and grown in the park thru the efforts of the Friends. All proceeds benefit the park for enhancement of current and new facilities.

 

A Garden Tour, led by Park Ranger Steve Alexander, will begin at 11:00 am. The tour will leave from the Plant Sale area. Come learn about the uniqueness of the Gardens and the history of the Park. This program will be included in the regular park entrance fee of $5.00 per vehicle.

It is common to hear people say we need to "live in the present moment," but who can actually do this? Explore ways to live mindfully during this interpretive tour.

 

Join Park Services Specialist Joe Woodbury as the walk starts with a warm cup of tea to settle the mind and calm the body. After the tea, the group will set off into the botanical gardens to discover how refreshing, healing, and wondrous the present moment can be. Dwelling in the present moment, participants will be free to enjoy the peace and beauty that surrounds them.

Roberson Visible Storage Building; the Giant Ground Sloth; Celestial Charts from the MOAS Collection; The Charles and Linda Williams Children’s Museum, the first hands-on science center in Volusia County, featuring more than 9,000 square feet of interactive exhibits. Shows will continue in the current planetarium through March 2014. The new MOAS Planetarium is scheduled to open in August 2014.

 

Laser Rock Concert Schedule 2014: March 8th - 7pm Laser Vinyl - Rock songs from the 70's and 80's, 8pm Laser U2, 9pm Laser Metallica. Second Saturday Laser Rock Concerts will resume in the new MOAS Planetarium, opening August 2014. Doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are $5 for one show, $7 for two shows or $9 for three shows and can be purchased in advance at the MOAS front desk or at the door the night of the event. Seating is limited. Snacks, beer and soft drinks can be purchased at the Museum and enjoyed in the planetarium.

 

Coming Soon to the Museum of Arts & Sciences

Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art. The innovative Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art will be the new 26,000 square foot home for the Brown’s extensive collection of more than 2,700 Florida oil and watercolor paintings. In addition to a large, permanent gallery including a mezzanine, which will showcase the collection’s signature pieces, the new Museum will include six changing galleries, ranging from 900 to 2,000 square feet, conference and education rooms, a café with outdoor seating and a gift shop. Conference rooms and meeting and event spaces will be available to the public on a rental basis. The Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art is scheduled to open in 2015.

 

New Planetarium. This state-of-the-art astronomy facility will feature dynamic and educational programming in a modern venue. Scheduled to open August 2014.

 

MOAS West Wing. Artwork from the West Wing will be temporarily re-located in the North Wing’s Ford Gallery during construction, which is scheduled late spring 2014. The new West Wing is scheduled to reopen in the fall of 2015.

 

Root Family Museum Project. The Root Family recently donated $1.2 million for the preservation of the historic Silver Holly and Hiawatha railcars and enclosure of the rail shed which are part of the Root Family Museum at MOAS. Original artifacts will be displayed in context with the railcars and can be enjoyed by visitors whatever the weather. The re-interpretation of the space will allow for great insight into the lives of early American industrialists. The railcar exhibit is scheduled to reopen fall 2014.

Valley of Shadows and Dreams presents, in words and images, the harsh truths of farm workers’ daily experiences, while taking a look at the impact of politics, environmental and water issues, and rampant, often ill-considered residential development. These photos and stories capture scenes of hardworking people fighting to preserve their livelihoods and traditions.

Join park volunteer, Jim Gleason, on this illuminating beach walk. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the second largest outcropping of coquina rock on the Atlantic Coast with a guide. Join us for an up close encounter with coquina rock and discover the inhabitants of the rock, the geological makeup of the rock, and explore the rock itself. Participants will also gain a better understanding of the beach ecosystem as a whole as birds, shells, and plants that are found along the way will be identified.

 

Reservations are not required. Participants will meet at the beachside parking lot and are encouraged to wear comfortable hiking shoes for traversing rocky terrain. The price of the program will be included in the regular park entrance fee.

Continuing exhibits: The Armory featuring Napoleonic weaponry; the Root Family Museum, featuring Coca-Cola© memorabilia and other Americana; the Cuban Foundation Collection; Frischer Sculpture Garden; Anderson C. Bouchelle Gallery for International Decorative Arts; Kim A. Klancke, M.D., and Marsha L. Klancke Environmental Education Complex in Tuscawilla Preserve; Schulte Gallery of Chinese Art; Helene B. Laser Rock Concert Schedule 2014: March 8th - 7pm Laser Vinyl - Rock songs from the 70's and 80's, 8pm Laser U2, 9pm Laser Metallica. Second Saturday Laser Rock Concerts will resume in the new MOAS Planetarium, opening August 2014. Doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are $5 for one show, $7 for two shows or $9 for three shows and can be purchased in advance at the MOAS front desk or at the door the night of the event. Seating is limited. Snacks, beer and soft drinks can be purchased at the Museum and enjoyed in the planetarium.

 

Coming Soon to the Museum of Arts & Sciences

Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art. The innovative Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art will be the new 26,000 square foot home for the Brown’s extensive collection of more than 2,700 Florida oil and watercolor paintings. In addition to a large, permanent gallery including a mezzanine, which will showcase the collection’s signature pieces, the new Museum will include six changing galleries, ranging from 900 to 2,000 square feet, conference and education rooms, a café with outdoor seating and a gift shop. Conference rooms and meeting and event spaces will be available to the public on a rental basis. The Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art is scheduled to open in 2015.

 

New Planetarium. This state-of-the-art astronomy facility will feature dynamic and educational programming in a modern venue. Scheduled to open August 2014.

 

MOAS West Wing. Artwork from the West Wing will be temporarily re-located in the North Wing’s Ford Gallery during construction, which is scheduled late spring 2014. The new West Wing is scheduled to reopen in the fall of 2015.

 

Root Family Museum Project. The Root Family recently donated $1.2 million for the preservation of the historic Silver Holly and Hiawatha railcars and enclosure of the rail shed which are part of the Root Family Museum at MOAS. Original artifacts will be displayed in context with the railcars and can be enjoyed by visitors whatever the weather. The re-interpretation of the space will allow for great insight into the lives of early American industrialists. The railcar exhibit is scheduled to reopen fall 2014.

 

Exhibits and dates subject to change.

 

Museum Hours are 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. (Tuesday‐Saturday) and 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. (Sunday). Closed Mondays.

 

Museum admission is $12.95 adults; $6.95 children 6‐17; $10.95 seniors and students; members and children 5 and under are free.

 

Planetarium and laser shows daily. Admission includes planetarium. Parking is free.

 

Admission is FREE for Volusia County residents the first Tuesday of each month.

Valley of Shadows and Dreams presents, in words and images, the harsh truths of farm workers’ daily experiences, while taking a look at the impact of politics, environmental and water issues, and rampant, often ill-considered residential development. These photos and stories capture scenes of hardworking people fighting to preserve their livelihoods and traditions.

There's perhaps no better way to celebrate the springtime beauty of Riverfront Shops of Downtown Daytona Beach than with great music, delicious food, and fine arts & crafts. And The Riverfront Music Festival will bring all this and more to Riverfront Park on Saturday March 22nd from 1 - 8 p.m.

Windy City Bar & Grill and McK's Tavern will kick off the music festival on Friday, March 21st with Irish Rock music in their restaurants located on S. Beach Street.

 

On Saturday morning the Daytona State College M.I.C. Band will perform at the Farmers' Market on City Island. A stage will be set up in Riverfront Park at the corner of Beach Street and Magnolia. Saturday's festivities in the park will start at 1 pm with Daytona State College contemporary ensemble bands and the DSC Theater Department's Improv Group. These groups will be followed by two of the area's finest bands, Are Friends Electric fronted by Jeremy and Andrea Mix at approximately 5 pm, and The Love Band at approximately 7 p.m.

 

Additionally, the Daytona State College School of Photography will have a display in the park along with lots of artisans displaying their arts & crafts. Gourmet Food Trucks will be serving a wide selection of delicious food and a bar will be available for adult beverages. On Saturday McK's Tavern will feature an Irish Jam session at 3 pm followed by Irish Band, Banished Misfortune at 6 pm.

 

This event is presented by The Daytona International Auto Mall, and sponsored by Daytona Beach Downtown Development Authority, Daytona Beach News Journal, WNDB, and WLOV.

The Friends of Washington Oaks would like to invite you to the first of many Music in the Park events at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park!! Enjoy an afternoon of great music in a beautiful outdoor setting!

 

This event will feature three bands playing from 2pm-5pm. "Swamp Yankees" will start the show at 2pm, followed by the St. Augustine favorite "Lonesome Bert and the Skinny Lizards" at 3pm both entertaining the crowd with their Acoustic Americana music. At 4pm, the professional musicians of the "Palmetto Ramblers" will finish out the afternoon with traditional bluegrass tunes.

 

Please bring a chair or blanket for your seating pleasure! Chairs will be provided for those who don't have their own. The Music in the Park series will be $5 per person attending the event. Reservations are not required. The Friends of Washington Oaks will be available at an information table, will have the gift shop open, and have light food items and beverages for sale.

Shows will continue in the current planetarium through March 2014. The new MOAS Planetarium is scheduled to open in August 2014.

 

Laser Rock Concert Schedule 2014: March 8th - 7pm Laser Vinyl - Rock songs from the 70's and 80's, 8pm Laser U2, 9pm Laser Metallica. Second Saturday Laser Rock Concerts will resume in the new MOAS Planetarium, opening August 2014. Doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are $5 for one show, $7 for two shows or $9 for three shows and can be purchased in advance at the MOAS front desk or at the door the night of the event. Seating is limited. Snacks, beer and soft drinks can be purchased at the Museum and enjoyed in the planetarium.

 

Coming Soon to the Museum of Arts & Sciences

Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art. The innovative Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art will be the new 26,000 square foot home for the Brown’s extensive collection of more than 2,700 Florida oil and watercolor paintings. In addition to a large, permanent gallery including a mezzanine, which will showcase the collection’s signature pieces, the new Museum will include six changing galleries, ranging from 900 to 2,000 square feet, conference and education rooms, a café with outdoor seating and a gift shop. Conference rooms and meeting and event spaces will be available to the public on a rental basis. The Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art is scheduled to open in 2015.

 

New Planetarium. This state-of-the-art astronomy facility will feature dynamic and educational programming in a modern venue. Scheduled to open August 2014.

 

MOAS West Wing. Artwork from the West Wing will be temporarily re-located in the North Wing’s Ford Gallery during construction, which is scheduled late spring 2014. The new West Wing is scheduled to reopen in the fall of 2015.

 

Root Family Museum Project. The Root Family recently donated $1.2 million for the preservation of the historic Silver Holly and Hiawatha railcars and enclosure of the rail shed which are part of the Root Family Museum at MOAS. Original artifacts will be displayed in context with the railcars and can be enjoyed by visitors whatever the weather. The re-interpretation of the space will allow for great insight into the lives of early American industrialists. The railcar exhibit is scheduled to reopen fall 2014.

Join park volunteer, Jim Gleason, on this illuminating beach walk. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the second largest outcropping of coquina rock on the Atlantic Coast with a guide. Join us for an up close encounter with coquina rock and discover the inhabitants of the rock, the geological makeup of the rock, and explore the rock itself. Participants will also gain a better understanding of the beach ecosystem as a whole as birds, shells, and plants that are found along the way will be identified.

 

Reservations are not required. Participants will meet at the beachside parking lot and are encouraged to wear comfortable hiking shoes for traversing rocky terrain. The price of the program will be included in the regular park entrance fee.

See a 1599's Timucuan Camp and experience the way of life of these amazing people first hand.Try your hand at throwing an atlatl or starting a fire using a bow and drill.

Pioneer Settlement for the Creative Arts- Monday – Saturday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., closed Sundays & major holidays

 

Truly a unique experience, our historical village is nestled within a charming, moss-draped oak hammock in western Volusia County. We offer self-tours or can provide each visitor or group with a guided tour of the structures within our expansive campus, which illustrates life in rural Florida in the bygone days of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

 

9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Saturday. Closed on Sundays and major holidays. Pioneer Settlement For the Creative Arts, 1776 Lightfoot Lane, Barberville.

The Easter Bunny is Hopping in to the Volusia Mall

Visits and Photos with the Easter Bunny- Mon. – Sat. 10 am - 9 pm & Sun. noon - 6 pm

 

Capture a memory with your child during a visit with the Easter Bunny

 

“The Easter Bunny will arrive at Volusia Mall and will be available for visits and photographs with children beginning March 29 through Easter in the Center Court of the mall,” said General Manager, Wayne Bohl. “Capturing a photo with your child and the Easter Bunny will be a priceless keepsake.”

 

In addition, Dillard’s will feature a Spring/Prom Fashion Show hosted by the Performing Arts Studio, LLC. Spring fashions will be showcased at noon and prom fashions at 3 pm outside the Dillard’s in Center Court.

 

Visits and Photos with the Easter Bunny will be available from March 29 through April 19 (Monday – Saturday 10 am to 9 pm and Sunday from noon to 6 pm). There is no charge to visit the Easter Bunny; however, visitors may purchase a photo package. Visit www.VolusiaMall.net for photo package options and pricing.

 

The Bunny Experience can continue after the visit to the mall through the MyHolidayMoments.com website which allows customers to download their digital Easter photo, share their photos thru social media as well as create photo projects with Shutterly.com. Visitors to the Easter Bunny at Arbor Place will receive a $10 to $20 Shutterfly gift card with any of the five photo packages available. Looking for more Easter fun for your kids, an app, MyHolidayMoments is available through iTunes or Google Play for free which has games, a countdown to Easter as well as the ability to check photo package prices and retrieve your photo on your mobile device.

 

Looking to save a little time during your visit to see the Easter Bunny? The “front of the line” pass is available by visiting the mall website and pre-purchasing your photo package. Shoppers with a “FastPass” will have a separate line and can avoid the wait!
