It’s About Courtesy & Rules...
Cruising along Daytona Beach within yards of the surf, you may be distracted by the sun burnished bodies stretched out on popsicle colored towels or the sight of the string of surfers perched on foamy waves. But beach safety is a priority here. It is all about courtesy and rules.
While driving in Daytona Beach, please watch for pedestrians and sunbathers. The speed limit is 10 mph. and is strictly enforced. Driving on the beach in Volusia County is a tradition that began in 1902 when auto races were first held here. Driving and parking on the hard-packed sand is still allowed in many areas near hotels and condominiums. Driving zones are marked by signs. Fees are charged for daily, weekly and resident car permits. There's no charge for vehicles with handicapped stickers to drive or park on the beach.
The beach is always free to pedestrians and bicyclists.
Do Your Part
Please help us protect the natural dunes. Many plants, animals and endangered or threatened sea turtles live or nest on Volusia beaches. Driving in the Natural Zones is not allowed. Habitat and conservation areas are clearly marked by teal poles. We want you to enjoy your stay, but if music or noise can be heard for more than 50 feet, it’s illegal. And alcohol and glass containers are not allowed on the beach. Finally, for your safety, ramps are closed and vehicles must leave during high tides, in extreme weather, or when the driving lane becomes dangerously narrow.
